Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences

The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences comprises three main academic disciplines of Political Science, Sociology and Economics that are represented at the institutes specialized in these subject fields respectively: the Institute of Political Science, the Max Weber Institute for Sociology with the Research Centre CSI and the Alfred Weber Institute for Economics with the Research Center for Environmental Economics.

Research at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences comprises the disciplines of Political Science, Sociology and Economics. Apart from disciplinary research there is also a variety of interdisciplinary research projects in the faculty, at the university as well as projects performed on the basis of external cooperation partnership. International cooperations and networks are the essential prerequisites for a successful performance of researchers.

Each year about 30-40 doctoral students receive their doctor's degree at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences in Economics, Sociology and Political Science. At present, only individual doctoral studies are offered at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. An important prerequisite for the admission for the doctoral studies is the acceptance of a doctoral supervisor.

The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences offer fundamental Bachelor's degree and Master's programmes in the fileds of Political Science, Sociology and Economics as well as teaching profession subjects as part of the Master of Education programmes. The study programmes are offered and managed at the institutes specialised in these fields. They also give contact information about study guidance, examination administration and student representatives.

The Campus Library Bergheim is the common library of the institutes of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. You can find there academic literature on the subjects of sociology, politics and economy. The library conveys about 350 000 books and journal volumes, including a part of the textbook collection of the University Library on sociology and economy. Apart from the library collection on four floors, there are 300 workplaces for students, including individual workplaces and rooms for group work.
